Community Companions - East Cheshire Hospice

Community Companions

Our companions deliver companionship and support to people in the early stages of dementia as well as giving their carers a few hours break. We’re looking for volunteers aged over 18 who enjoy the company of others; can have enjoy a laugh as well as being caring and compassionate. You don’t need to have had any previous experience of working with people with dementia but a willingness to learn is essential. You will be matched up with a person of similar interests for a couple of hours per week or per fortnight, to visit during the daytime Monday – Friday. No personal care is involved, and full support will be given to you throughout training and volunteering, so you can concentrate on enjoying making a real difference to the life of the person and their carer. This is a long term commitment – we’d like you to visit the person you’re matched with for a minimum of 1 year, and whilst this service is not currently running, we do expect it to resume in Summer 2021 so please do complete an application form and we’ll be in touch.
