Traffic, Trees and Triumph: Hospice Gears Up for Big Weekend

The East Cheshire Hospice Christmas tree collection swings into action once again on a big weekend in Macclesfield.

The lunchtime FA Cup tie between Macclesfield FC and holders Crystal Palace on Saturday will add to congestion on the roads.

Organisers have carefully reviewed routes for tree collection vans to avoid getting caught in traffic.

The campaign is heading for another success thanks to donations from supporters registering trees and sponsors whose backing means every penny donated goes towards patient care.

Volunteers will be out in force, setting off from the Hospice in a fleet of vans at first light.

Last year’s collection, which was delayed a week due to snow and ice, raised £160,000, taking the total generated over a quarter of a century to more than £2m.

The closing date to register was officially yesterday (Wed), though the Hospice urge those yet to book to get in touch so arrangements can be made.

To do so, visit www.echtrees.org.uk. For queries email echtrees@echospice.org.uk or call 01625 708939.

Trees are recycled for biomass fuel after mulching at the Ansa recycling depot at West Park and Swift Tree Services in Adlington.

The environmental and community impact resulted in the Hospice winning a prestigious social value award at the National Recycling Awards in November.
