Sue Cottingham will dedicate a bauble on a Christmas tree like she has done for the last seven years.
She is hoping other East Cheshire Hospice supporters will do the same.
Each leaving a personal message, if they wish, to remember lost loved ones.
The Tree of Memories is a focal point in the Hospice chapel, each bauble with its own special story.
In Sue’s case how the Hospice cared for her late husband David Dixon (64) in the first week of 2018.
David only fell ill two months earlier, but his cancer spread rapidly.
Only 18 months before the couple had got married on their favourite Greek island Symi, having spent more than 20 years together.
Sue is sharing her story as part of a Hospice campaign to promote its Light Up A Life initiative.
She said: “I feel privileged to explain why I dedicate a bauble each year for my beloved husband.
“My family and I will be forever grateful for the sensitive way the Hospice looked after him and our family in the last week of his life.
“Dedicating a bauble in his memory helps us include him over the festive period and recognise the truly wonderful work everyone does at the Hospice throughout the year.
“It is a way of remembering, reflecting and giving back at this special time.
“The Hospice not only provide the most impressive medical and palliative care for the patient they also offer sensitive and helpful advice to the families at this time of need and ongoing.”
Sue is a brand manager for lifestyle products manufactured in Europe. The couple, who have three children, ran the business D & S Living UK together.
She said: “Symi was our second home. We loved visiting. David had a dry sense of humour and when he asked me to marry him, I thought he was joking at first.
“Our family will always support the Hospice’s wonderful work. We buy Christmas cards each year and any donations for baubles don’t need to be big as every little helps.” To dedicate a bauble, visit www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk/lual.
