Panadero Lounge support East Cheshire Hospice with their creative fundraiser

A wet sponge in the face in the street was a price worth paying for staff at Panadero Lounge in Macclesfield.

Passers-by donated £1 to throw sponges, with one onlooker giving £20 to tip a bucket of water over victims.

The fun was in aid of East Cheshire Hospice which has received more than £4,000 from Panadero since the café bar and restaurant opened 17 months ago.

The sponge dare raised £75 in minutes to end Panadero’s latest month-long fundraising challenge.

General manager Elli Warhurst said: “The chefs and front of house staff got drenched but didn’t mind in the slightest.

“The £901 raised was one of the highest totals across our chain of Lounges, so the group kindly contributed a further £500.

“We’d like to thank customers and staff for their generous support.

“Every Lounge could nominate a charity. As GM, I chose the Hospice which is close to my heart. It was a no-brainer.

“They do an amazing job and friends and relatives have received end-of-life care there.

“I’ve done a sky dive before and know how much money the Hospice needs to operate.”

Elli also swam 179 lengths of her local pool – the equivalent of two lengths of Lake Windermere – having barely swum since she was 10.

A customer treated for cancer donated four jars of Swizzells as a prize for a guess the number of sweets competition.

Guessing the name of a cuddly toy elephant was another fundraiser for Panadero which runs monthly quiz nights.
