Hospice Aid raised more than £16,500 for East Cheshire Hospice

A night of musical nostalgia brought memories flooding back and funds pouring in for East Cheshire Hospice.

More than £16,500 was raised by Hospice Aid, a show inspired by the Live Aid concert 40 years earlier.

Some 21 musicians performed at a packed Cinemac Cinema under the expert guidance of musical director Beth Moss.

A rousing chorus of ‘Feed the World’ crowned an emotional night and months of careful planning by Beth and show organiser Doug Skelton.

The £10,000 fundraising target had already been hit even before the curtain went up.

Doug said: “It was a spectacular evening. We knew it would be good, but everyone in the room made it far bigger than we could have imagined and our total is still rising.

“We raised a huge amount which will make a real difference to the Hospice. We want to thank everyone on and off stage for making it possible.

“The community came together, including musicians, sponsors and the audience, to back a charity which means so much to Macclesfield.”

Six main sponsors – Silktown Snooker Club, Storm Brewing Co, Intersafety, Globus, Holdcroft Motor Group and Meticulous Decorating – covered running costs alongside support from many small local businesses.

That meant all ticket sales and donations went directly to the Hospice. Supporter Mike Dawson also generously match funded the leading sponsor.

The show displayed musical talent within Macclesfield from Adam Gibbons’ recreation of Freddie Mercury to vintage bass from Phil Speight MBE.
