Great Manchester run story

Florist Penny Williams  fears she may be wilting by the end of the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run.

Penny is part of a 30-strong team from Arighi Bianchi running 10 kilometres on Sunday (May 21).

Penny said: “I’ve never run and hate running, but thought I’d challenge myself for a good cause.”

That cause is East Cheshire Hospice, with the Arighi Bianchi team hoping to raise £10,000 for the Hospice.

Penny has run her own modern floristry business Modern Farmhouse within the family-owned furniture store since October, with mum Deborah and sister Emily helping out.

She said: “I’m not a natural runner and haven’t got the stamina. I’m just not very good at it. But it’s such a lovely family here and it’s nice to do something with the team.”

Also running is head of marketing Lucy Mather, a fifth generation member of the Bianchi family. Uncle Nick is a director, mum Sarah is managing director and grandad Paul was company chairman until retiring.

Lucy said: “Training has gone well, though I’ve never really run in my life, apart from a 5k for charity during lockdown.

“It’s nice to support a good cause like the Hospice, which is such a well-known institution in Macclesfield like Arighi Bianchi.”

Senior graphic designer Hannah Wilson, ecommerce assistant Rebecca Lambe and sales consultant Jacob Shields are also in the team.
