East Cheshire Hospice Bed Appeal launches today!

East Cheshire Hospice has today launched a Bed Appeal to provide patients with new specialist beds which are much needed.

The Hospice is hoping the community will respond to a plea for help to replace 16 beds at a total cost of £95,648.

They are more than just a bed, according to clinical staff who see during the day-to-day care of patients that existing specialist beds are ready to be updated.

That depends on funding, hence the public appeal.

Claire Barber, the Hospice’s Clinical Services Manager, said: “I’m making a heartfelt appeal – one that lies at the very heart of the care we provide.

“After 10 years of constant use, we desperately need to replace our specialist beds to continue offering the expert, compassionate care that every person deserves in their final days.

“These beds are the most vital piece of equipment in end-of-life care. They bring comfort, dignity and safety to those at their most vulnerable.

“They help us relieve pain, manage breathlessness, support rest, prevent pressure ulcers, and enable safe, gentle movement.

“But they also do so much more than that.

“These beds are less clinical than traditional hospital beds and help us create a warm, peaceful, and welcoming environment.

“They make it possible for patients to share a meal with their loved ones, enjoy the sunshine in the garden, or simply hold hands with someone dear.

“They truly are so much more than just a bed.”

All 15 beds in the inpatient unit need to be replaced, along with another in the Sunflower Living Well Centre. Each bed costs £5,978.

The Hospice can no longer obtain replacement parts for existing beds. Latest models which embrace new technology are far more suitable for patients.

The charity is asking schools, businesses, families and individuals to support a fundraising campaign.

Pyjama days and Miles for Mattresses are just two initiatives in which members of the public can help. Full details on how to get involved are on the website.

Claire said: “We simply can’t do this without you.

“Your support today will help us ensure every person we care for can feel safe, comfortable, and surrounded by love. Whatever you’re able to give will make a meaningful difference.” * To donate or get involved visit www.echospice.org.uk/bed-appeal
