A spotlight on Claritas at Light up a Life

East Cheshire Hospice stages one of its most poignant events of the year with its traditional Light Up a Life service on Sunday, December 7, at 4 pm.

This moving service at the United Reformed Church in Macclesfield is a chance to remember those dear to our hearts and enter the spirit of Christmas.

Bringing a festive flavour to proceedings will be Claritas, the Hospice choir, which has enjoyed another memorable year.

The half-hour service, supported by Macclesfield Town Council, will be conducted by Hospice chaplain Marion Tugwood. Tickets are not required.

Amy Williams, the Hospice’s Family and Friends Fundraiser, said: “Our Light Up a Life service is an opportunity to come together to remember and celebrate those we love this Christmas.

“It allows us a moment to reflect and share memories. Everyone is welcome, whether your loved one was cared for by the Hospice or not.

“Let’s honour their memory and keep their light shining this Christmas.”

Afterwards, guests can browse stalls selling festive items and handmade goods while enjoying a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine.

The festive season is an important time in the Hospice’s fundraising calendar.

A Tree of Memories will be displayed in the Hospice chapel which has undergone improvement work this year.

Supporters can honour someone special by dedicating a bauble and making a donation.

Amy said: “These personalised baubles are a way of remembering and the donations help us to continue to care for and support patients, not just at Christmas but whenever they need it most.” * To dedicate a bauble, visit www.echospice.org.uk/lual or call 01625 433477.

Claritas are hard at work rehearsing for their busiest time of year.

The mixed voice community choir has donated £71,000 to the Hospice since it was formed in 2006.

Most recently a cheque for a record £10,000 from funds raised over the last year.

Claritas have made a £10,000 donation to the Hospice.

Claritas, which boasts around 50 members and rehearses on Mondays, will be back at the United Reformed Church for a concert on Saturday, December 13, starting at 7.30 pm.
