Bott & Co to Save the Day at Starlight Walk

Superheroes will use their special powers to fundraise at next month’s Starlight Walk at Capesthorne Hall.

Staff at consumer law firm Bott and Co will dress up as characters for the East Cheshire Hospice event on Thursday, April 16.

Their costumes are made by Ann McLoughlin, operations manager at the practice which is celebrating its 25th anniversary by raising £25,000 for the charity.

The walk is poignant for Ann whose late husband Kevin died in the Hospice early last year, aged 61.

Kevin, a fitness fanatic, had run more than 30 marathons and was preparing for a 50-mile ultra marathon when he became ill in 2023.

After he was diagnosed with aggressive bowel cancer which spread, Kevin decided he wanted to stay at home as long as possible.

Ann said: “Kevin didn’t want to die at home and went to the Hospice two days before he passed away. It was such a relief as looking after him at home was challenging.

“The Hospice were lovely. I don’t know how the nurses do their job. I get upset just remembering how kind they were.

“I stayed overnight both nights. You just pressed the buzzer and nurses came along as cheery as they could be.”

Colleagues will join Ann at the memory walk as they did last year when they raised £1,200.

Ann said: “I’m quite handy on the sewing machine so I’m creating sunflower superhero costumes with capes. It should be fun.”

Kevin’s story has inspired Bott and Co to support the Hospice.

Employees at its Wilmslow headquarters, where more than 100 staff are based, will undertake various activities.

Funds raised from these group events will be donated to the Hospice, while challenges by individuals for their own charities will be match funded by Bott and Co with those proceeds going to the Hospice.

One employee Hannah Baxby is running a marathon in the Sahara.

Managing partner and firm co-founder Paul Hinchliffe said: “The Hospice is particularly close to our hearts as staff members and their families have personally experienced its compassionate care and support.

“We aim to raise £25,000 to support its vital work.”

The Starlight Walk route is a 2.5k loop with walkers covering as many laps as they wish between 7.15 pm and 9.45 pm.

Gates open at 6 pm with an event village providing live entertainment, food and drink.

An early bird offer expires on Monday, March 16.
