Volunteers at the East Cheshire Hospice Christmas tree collection included several drivers who pick up furniture for the charity’s shops.
Among them Simon Thomas, a teacher and head of year at King’s School infants and juniors in Macclesfield.
Simon said: “Teaching keeps me busy but occasionally in the holidays I do a shift on the furniture van.

“The tree collection is always a good atmosphere, with lovely food and cakes at the Mulchers Arms and a nice pint at the Cock and Pheasant pub afterwards.”
His van crew included Hospice trustee Neil McArthur and wife Francesca, a volunteer Hospice receptionist.
Francesca said: “I’ve been collecting trees for eight or nine years. It’s fun and creates lovely memories.”

Neil said: “We’ve been out with different volunteers each time. It’s a great way to meet people while doing such a worthy job for the Hospice.”
Charlie Seddon was joined by wife Carol and son Peter.
Charlie said: “I’ve worked in horticulture for over 40 years and have an interest in trees. This weekend keeps me active and makes a difference for the Hospice.”
He will visit China with other Hospice supporters in November.

Hospice trustee chair Juliette White CBE served breakfasts on Sunday after collecting trees on Saturday, helped by husband Howard and driver Nick Bamberger.
Howard said: “Carrying trees is a lot of manual labour all day and quite tiring but is enjoyable and rewarding.”
Macclesfield mayor Cllr Emma Gilman visited volunteers which included Knutsford mayor Cllr Bryan Hartley.
