Charity Day Pic 1

Another successful Hospice fundraising day to remember for Mary Hindle.

Cakes, conversation and good company made it another Hospice day to remember for Mary Hindle.

Especially as the occasion raised at least £1,700 for East Cheshire Hospice.

Mary has been holding these annual events at her Prestbury home for almost 20 years, generating nearly £20,000 for charity.

Scores of visitors tucked into Mary’s delicious cakes. Flavours included carrot, coffee and walnut, marzipan and apricot and fruit.

Mince pies and shortbread were also on offer in lieu of a donation, with Christmas cards available. A further £200 donation was made to The Christie in Macclesfield.

Mary, a retired teacher, has a soft spot for the Hospice where husband Ian died in 2011, aged 63.

Guests also brought along homemade cakes to sell and raffle prizes, while help came from friends including Angie Entwistle, Carol Waters and Lesley Clough.

Mary said: “I couldn’t do it without them. My helpers make the day what it is and I’d like to thank them.

“The lovely people who come along also make me realise how many kind and generous people there are.”

Gwen Dale and Jenny Carey are long standing supporters.

Gwen said: “It’s a wonderful day. Mary puts so much hard work into baking and it’s lovely to see people you might only see once a year.”

Jenny said: “I met Mary at The Tytherington Club after moving from Sheffield. Several club members are usually here.”

Pat Massey was a first-time guest after moving back to the area.
