Reya Lamptey shows off her baking skills to raise money for the East Cheshire Hospice

Little Reya Lamptey is following in the footsteps of her uncle by helping others.

At five, she is one of East Cheshire Hospice’s youngest fundraisers after baking dozens of cakes.

Reya donated £253 to the charity from her kitchen skills, emulating kind-hearted uncle Carl Lamptey.

Incredibly, Carl and his Team Rainbow fundraisers are approaching £100,000 in donations to the Hospice.

Reya sold dozens of brownies, cupcakes and Rice Krispie cakes outside her Macclesfield home.

Reya said: “The Hospice means a lot to our family, so I wanted to help by baking during the school holidays.

“I think the cakes were tasty and I want to thank everyone who bought them.”

Reya took a giant cheque presented by the Hospice to show classmates at Marlborough Primary School.

Mum Corinne acted as helper. She said: “When Reya wanted to do a bake sale, I said we’d better learn how to make them.

“Until then I was the world’s worst baker. I was terrible. I tried during lockdown when everyone else did. Daddy tried one of my cakes and was nearly sick it was that bad.”

Inspired by her daughter, Corinne finally got the recipe right and passers-by, neighbours and family and friends enjoyed their treats.

Dad Josh, Carl’s brother, even returned for more.

The family has strong links with the Hospice. Carl’s wife, Sarah, who died of breast cancer in 2014, was cared for there.

As was Reya’s great grandfather Norman Gosling, while Corinne’s mum Janette Gibbons and stepdad Steve Hulse died from cancer.

Corinne said: “The Hospice is important to our family and we’ll always support it.

“It helps not just the person in need of care, but the family around them as well.

“Carl is an angel. He’s always doing stuff for the Hospice.”

Carl said: “I was shocked and proud when I heard that Reya wanted to fundraise for the Hospice.

“That’s the next generation and it’s good she wants to continue the family tradition. Reya lives round the corner, and I took the kids round to buy some cakes.

“Team Rainbow isn’t far off raising £100,000. We do as much as possible for the Hospice and other charities.

“Sarah started it off and it has continued through Team Rainbow, helped by some very generous supporters.”
