Hospice Aid Rehearsal Picture

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Live Aid in Macclesfield.

Tickets are selling fast for a special Hospice Aid concert at Cinemac Cinema on Saturday, July 12.

The town’s best musical talent is coming together as one ‘supergroup’ for a fabulous one-off show which aims to raise £10,000 for East Cheshire Hospice.

Musicians will recreate hits from the Wembley concert which took place on the same weekend in 1985.

Cover versions of songs by artists such as Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael and Paul McCartney will be performed, along with many other enduring favourites.

Doors open at 7 pm for an 8 pm start.

Tickets are available from The Wharf, The Button Warehouse, Amp Guitars or via www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk/events/hospice-aid/

Macclesfield businesses are sponsoring the event to help reach the target.

They include Storm Brewing whose owner Dave Stebbings has a special reason for supporting the Hospice.

He said: “I had a friend who spent his last weeks at the Hospice and I couldn’t bring myself to go to see him there. I wish I had.

“My problem was acknowledging that he was at the end of life. It was a mistake on my part not to do that.

“My message to people who might feel the same way is just to get over it and do go.

“I want to give something back to the Hospice and I’m sure Hospice Aid will be a fantastic night of musical entertainment.”

Dave has recollections of Live Aid in 1985.

He said: “I’d just got married and remember watching it in my first house. As a keen musician, it was a must-see event for me.”

Hospice Aid is organised by musicians Doug Skelton and Beth Moss.

Doug’s employers Intersafety have turned a warehouse into a rehearsal space for final practices.

The family-run business distributes PPE, clothing and workplace safety products.

Doug said: “Hospice Aid will be a landmark charity event for the town fuelled by musical nostalgia and the principle of Live Aid.”

“We urge everyone to come along to support artists from different musical genres who’ll be staging something completely unique.”

“It should be a memorable night for Macclesfield and, importantly, the Hospice which is close to all our hearts. My grandparents were cared for by the charity.”

“The response from the business community has been staggering and heartwarming.
