Maria Lumsden has raised more than £11,000 for East Cheshire Hospice

Keen walker Maria Lumsden has raised more than £11,000 for East Cheshire Hospice by climbing Ben Nevis.

Son Harry, daughter Jess and cousins Dayle and Ben Crichton joined Maria on the six-hour trek.

They were accompanied by Maria’s two-year-old border terrier Dotty who needed the odd stop on the descent after a tiring climb.

Maria said: “I’m from Scotland originally and this trip was on my bucket list. I’ve done lots of climbing but never Ben Nevis.

“The Hospice needs to raise more than £9,000 a day to keep going and this is my way of helping. I’d like to thank everyone for being so generous with their support.”

LAST month’s Starlight Walk raised £28,000 thanks to the efforts of almost 300 walkers.

Nearly 300 walkers strolled round the grounds of Capesthorne Hall on a beautiful evening.

Community and Events Manager Claire Gorton said: “We’re thrilled to share the news that our Starlight Walk raised so much and it’s all down to our wonderful supporters.

“Whether you walked, volunteered, donated or cheered from the sidelines, your support has made a huge difference.

“Every step taken helps us continue providing exception care to local people when they need it most.”

The walk was held later this year due to venue availability and the move to lighter nights was rewarded with better weather.

The walk is one of the flagship events in the Hospice fundraising calendar and for a list of ways to support the charity visit the website.
