Chris started coming to the Supportive Therapy session on Tuesday back in February 2023 after completing the FAB (Fatigue and Breathlessness) group.
On his first day, the group were making raspberry buns and Chris found himself in the key role of judge, much like Paul Hollywood. From then on, Chris was hooked and each week he would have a go at the activity on offer, from fingerprint painting to chocolate orange snowmen at Christmas. During the sessions, Chris would also receive a complementary therapy, whether that be a hand or foot massage as well as having the opportunity to chat to other patients, making some lasting friendships. A box of Chris’ crafts is now full of items he has created over the sessions.
Chris and his wife, Bernadette, also started to attend the MND group which runs once a month. Again, the group gave the couple a chance to meet other people in a safe, relaxed environment where you can share problems, concerns or experiences with others who are in a similar situation. He has also stayed here at the Hospice for respite where he loved having a jacuzzi bath and felt like ‘the nurses really enjoyed looking after you.’
And beyond the care and support, there have been truly special moments. In August 2024, surrounded by love, Chris and Bernadette renewed their wedding vows in our Chapel which was a beautiful celebration of their bond.
