Walkers Peter Henshaw and John McKay never got lost once during a six-day pilgrimage.
A satnav app on Peter’s mobile phone kept them on course along St Oswald’s Way in Northumbria.
So too the trusty instincts of John’s dog Nora as they raised £6,800 for East Cheshire Hospice.

John said: “If we walked 100 miles, Nora probably did at least twice that amount by running ahead to check the route before re-joining us.
“It was an amazing experience. We were blessed with beautiful weather. It must have rained for only 15 minutes.
“It was the first time I’d done a long walk so I didn’t know what to expect. Every day we enjoyed different scenery.”
John was a doctor at the Hospice and worked at Macclesfield District General Hospital where he is now a chaplain.

He is Deacon at St Philip’s and St Peter’s Catholic Churches in Stockport where the congregation includes Peter, who also attends St Alban’s in Macclesfield.
Parishioners sponsored the walk, along with other friends, relatives and colleagues.
Peter said: “We’re overwhelmed and humbled by their generosity and the acts of kindness shown on the walk.
“It was a spiritual journey retracing the footsteps of Anglo-Saxon king St Oswald, ending on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.”
Wives Rachel and Mary, and Peter’s daughter Chloe, met them at the finish.
