Tough Woofer Photo Competition Winner

It’s official – East Cheshire’s cutest canine is Teddy, the golden retriever.

Teddy has been chosen as the “face” of the East Cheshire Hospice poster campaign to advertise Macclesfield’s first ever Tough Woofer event in September – a special event to mark the Hospices’ 30th anniversary year.

Teddy, who celebrates his third birthday at the weekend, was chosen from four finalists who all won a day at a Teneight photography studios where he proved himself to be a very camera-friendly pooch.

Owners Sophie and Ben Mercer, from Macclesfield, say they are not surprised that Teddy enjoyed his photography session.

“He had a good old nosey around when he got there and then he responded really well to the camera with a little bit of bribery from some doggie treats,” says Sophie. “He’d do anything for a dog biscuit!”.

“He’s a very energetic dog , a big softie really and we are very proud of him, “ adds Sophie, 29. “ We entered the competition as the Hospice is such an important local cause and I sometimes help out at the Hospice fund-raising Elf runs at All-Hallows school where I work”.

Photographer Alex Wright said Teddy was the perfect doggie model.

“He’s a lovely, confident and well-behaved dog and there was something about his expression which  worked brilliantly for the brief,” said Alex. “He’s quite fluffy and not too tough – the perfect pooch.”

Teddy’s winning pic will now be displayed on giant billboards around the town to advertise the 5k Tough Woofer event which will feature 15 different mud, water and climbing obstacles similar to its Tough Mudder relation but will be specially designed for pooches and their owners.

The event, which will raise funds for the East Cheshire Hospice, takes place in the grounds of Capesthorne Hall on September 30 and is expected to attract hundreds of entries.

Teddy and his owners will be there on the day and may well take advantage of the featured doggie shower and pooch pampering area set up to ensure that Teddy and all his four-legged friends get home clean and tidy.
