2018 Christmas Tree Collection

It's all systems go for the East Cheshire Hospice Christmas Tree Collection which takes place this weekend (Sat Jan 13/Sun Jan 14).

The deadline for registration is today  (Wed, Jan 10) at www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk/echtrees.

Around 300 volunteers and more than 40 vehicles will be involved in the massive operation which covers the following post codes: CW12, SK9, SK10, SK11, SK12 and WA16 which is Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Bollington, Prestbury, Poynton, Congleton and Knutsford.

The collection is in its 18th year and has raised £800,000 for the Hospice so far. A record total of £114,000 was raised last year despite a delay because of bad weather.

Organisers expect most payments to be made online, although the more traditional method of pinning donations to trees is also an option. In this case, cheques are preferred and should be made payable to East Cheshire Hospice with the donor's address on the back.

A route-mapping system will aid volunteers as they travel along 2,100 roads collecting trees, providing the most cost-effective and efficient routes.

Organisers are keen to emphasise the green aspect of the collection and work closely with Cheshire East Council to ensure trees are ground into mulch before being mixed into compost for recycling back into the soil.

A social media campaign is also being run to raise further awareness of the scheme.
