Santa Claus is coming to town

A Macclesfield charity shop will have its very own little slice of Christmas this weekend.

The East Cheshire Hospice Thornton Square shop will be transformed into a magical grotto with the arrival of Santa and a few of his helpers.

The transformation is being led by the Hospices’ e-commerce manager, Suvi Harriman, who admits that she took to the task with great gusto as the season is her favourite time of year.

“Coming from Finland, Christmas has always been a magical time for me. I’ve always loved everything about it,” she says. “And of course my country is the homeland of Santa – nothing can beat a trip to Lapland to see where and his elves live.”

Suvi is already planning a Lapland trip for her two children Johanna, 9, and Patrick, 8, for next Christmas. “I just love, love, love Christmas”, she says.

No surprises that Suvi was first to put her hand up last year to help with the shop’s very first Christmas grotto and aims to make this year’s even bigger and better.

With an entry fee of £5, there will be Christmas craft making and letter writing to Santa as well as a meeting with the man himself and, of course, a gift. And next week, all children who take part can return to pick up a reply to their letter from Mrs. Claus.

Santa will be at the Thornton Square shop between noon and 3pm this Saturday (December 16)
