Elf Run is huge success

Macclesfield had elves popping up everywhere in the countdown to Christmas.

A staggering 8,668 elves took part in the Elf Runs organised by East Cheshire Hospice.

These fun events were held at 25 primary schools, 11 nurseries, six high schools, three businesses and 11 other groups, including youth groups, such as scouts.

It was almost double the number who took part in the inaugural year and the Hospice is hoping to raise more than £70,000 from the Elf Runs, which were sponsored by Active Cheshire.

Active Cheshire's aim is to encourage us all to get 'fit and elfie'  and its mascot Active Archie joined  Hospice mascot Sunny the Dog at various events. All participants received a free elf hat.

Hospice Community Fundraiser Lisa Ball said: "We'd like to thank everyone who joined in the festive fun and raised vital funds for East Cheshire Hospice.

"It was a simple format and hugely successful and provided a fantastic  finish to what has been another great fundraising year. Our thanks also go to Active Cheshire for its kind support."
