JustGiving £1million

Staff at East Cheshire Hospice this week handed out a million “thank-yous” after receiving some good news from one of the world’s biggest social platforms.

JustGiving, the online site for charity giving, have just informed the team at East Cheshire that they have raised £1m. from donations on the site.

Since starting to use the service in 2012, more than 2500 pages have been created for the Hospice by individuals and companies wanting to raise money in a variety of ways.

From sky-diving to cake-baking, all proceeds go directly from the JustGiving site to the Hospice making it an easy and effective way of fundraise.

“People use it to raise sponsorship money, when they’re taking part in one of our events, or to collect memorial donations,” says Supporter Care Manager at the Hospice, Carol Frain. “It’s also a really easy way to collect money for people embarking on their own challenges.”

The JustGiving site is popular with single individuals such as Victoria Smith who has raised more than £2300 in memory of her mother Lindsey and groups of friends such as the Goostrey

Wheelers who cycled 850 kilometres across Croatia gaining more than £1200 in memory of their cycling mate, David Macauley.

Companies using the site have included the pharmaceutical consultancy firm, the Adelphi Group, whose employees donated £1462 after completing a 26-mile circular hike around Bollington in July and McCann Manchester who raised £3600 after a company team completed the Three Peaks challenge last October.

And some people use it over long periods of time such as Carla Gilder whose fitness company has raised £10,000 by organising a series of events and challenges over a year and Lucy Waters who is raising money by completing one challenge a month throughout 2017.

Current challenges using the site include Vivienne Worrall who has already been given £2000 worth of donation in advance of her trek up Mount Kilimanjaro next February.

“We are so proud to have had £1 million in donations so far and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has used JustGiving to raise money for us”, says Carol.
