Work experience at the Hospice

Please note; due to COVID19 restrictions we currently do not offer Work Experience placements at East Cheshire Hospice until further notice

  • Our ‘Hospice Mix’ offer gives participants an overview of the Hospice, with one day each in administration, fundraising and our Sunflower Wellbeing centre, plus two in our charity shops. Some people prefer a clinical – based work experience programme, but we feel that we have more impact like this for a couple of reasons. As a relatively small organisation offering highly specialised care in what can be a challenging environment, our focus must be on the needs of patients and their families. Secondly, work experience in a variety of departments gives the participant a wider perspective on the organisation, an appreciation of just what it takes to keep an organisation like East Cheshire Hospice running – the many people fundraising every single day of the year, those in marketing working to promote the organisation, running our volunteering service, volunteering on reception, compliance, governance and so much more, to enable those delivering care to our patients and their families to do so!
  • Our retail offer gives some great work experience through our three shops. Our friendly managers and teams of volunteers in our Handforth and Macclesfield retail outlets can help you develop your CV as well as your practical skills and teamworking. Soft skills such as communication are highly valued by employers and areas of further education, and we can help you develop these in a caring work environment. We are able to offer this as a week’s block, for Duke of Edinburgh, or self – motivated on a Saturday morning or afternoon shift once a week or once a fortnight.

If you’d like to apply for these placements, please complete the application form below and give us as much information about yourself as possible. please clearly state which programme you’re interested in, in the ‘Any other information’ section.

Please note, places on our programme are limited, and it fills up quickly so feel free to email before applying to check that we have space for the weeks you require.

If you have any questions at all, please contact Anna at

**Application Form has been temporarily removed whilst we are unable to accept Work Experience placements. Check back later in the year to see if we can reopen applications**
