Survival Challenge

Reckon you are the next Bear Grylls?

Why not turn that weekend camping trip into a fundraiser for the East Cheshire Hospice. Get together with some family and friends and see if you have the survival skills to camp out in the woods for a night or two. You will need to do some research on how to survive a night with the minimal of equipment*.

Learn how to:
  • Build a fire
  • How to forage for food and water safely
  • Navigation skills
  • How to build a watertight place to sleep
  • First Aid

There are plenty of groups, organisations, and materials such and books and vlogs that will help you to prepare and build the best outdoor skills. Local Scouts and Guides groups teach these skills, additionally many schools will offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award to teach children these essential outdoors skills.

*Please do not take on the challenge on your own, it’s safer and always more fun with a buddy!

How do I start fundraising?

Start by setting up your Just Giving page here and follow the simple step-by-step process to creating your fundraising page. Make sure to fill in the details about your Bear Grylls challenge, set yourself a fundraising target, share your page with friends and family on social media, email, WhatsApp, text… And away you go!

It costs £7,500 to keep the Hospice running for 1 day, so every penny that you can raise is important. You may never know exactly how your support will help but you can be assured that the impact your support will have on local families who can benefit from the Hospice services at one of the most difficult and emotional times will be huge and ever so appreciated.

Sports Tournament

Organising a fundraising tournament is not only fun but it’s a great way to introduce kids to new sports they may not thought of trying before. It is also a really inclusive way of bringing family, friends and communities together to support a good cause.

Tournaments could be organised through:
  • A local community organisation,
  • One local team working on their own
  • Several local teams working in collaboration
  • A local league itself
  • Or independently

Depending on your sport you need to work out how your tournament will work.

Shortened and reduced versions of the main games are usual. For instance Five a Side football 10mins each way etc. To maintain interest try to avoid anything that involves early knockouts for teams. Keep it simple and easy to understand with plenty going on and lots of action for the contestants.

Different types of sports could include:
  • Netball
  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Rugby
  • Rounders
  • Relay race
You may also wish to present awards for specific things such as:
  • Top scorers – Either as a team or individually – often called the golden boot.
  • Player of the tournament – Chosen either by ballot of all those taking part or based on the judgement of a coach or similar.
  • Best sportsmanship – the team with the best attitude to the game and their opponents.
  • Best supported team – a great way to encourage your supporters to cheer on your team.

How do I start fundraising?

The best way to collect sponsorship would be to take cash on the day of the event. We have plenty of collection buckets and pots you can use for your event, please see contact details below of how to get in touch with us.

Skydiving

For over 24 years Skyline has been the leading charity events organiser in the UK working with well over 3000 amazing charities and raising tens of millions of pounds over the years.

With stacks of experience and more than 100,000 successful and happy jumpers, the team at Skyline aim to give you the best, adrenaline filled experience possible. They will handle your booking to make it as easy as possible and will be on hand to answer any of your niggling questions, giving you the time to get yourself prepared for the ultimate challenge!

What is it like?

A Tandem skydive is the easiest and most popular of all skydives. It requires only 30 minutes of training before you then jump strapped to your instructor! The BPA (British Parachute Association) qualified tandem instructor does all of the hard work for you, allowing you to enjoy the exhilarating feeling of flying through the clouds from over 10,000 feet at up to 120 mph! It is a truly unforgettable experience.

Can friends and family come along to watch?

Yes they can – please be aware though that it can be a long day for them if the jump is delayed due to weather. They can usually arrive around 1 hour after the jumper if it is easier for them as training and registration will be completed by then.

Points to remember:
  • All Airfields have a weight limit for parachuting – the majority are 15 stone, however there are certain airfields that can take both higher and lower! Details can be found on our Prices and Locations page for each airfield.
  • It can take 2-3 days to get you booked. As soon as are you’ll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to know about your upcoming jump!
  • If you have any questions then take a look at Skyline’s FAQs page, or call Skyline on 020 7424 5522!

Taking on this challenge and raising sponsorship for East Cheshire Hospice really will make a difference to local people and their families who are cared for here.
