Roger Payne - Chairman(back to top)![]() Roger Payne is a retired businessman, who has spent all his life in the area, and who is married with two daughters and four grandchildren. He decided to support East Cheshire Hospice after two friends experienced the amazing clinical and emotional support which they were given in such an unassuming way. He believes the Council of Trustees has two roles to perform - to be satisfied that day-to-day operations in the Hospice are running as they should, and to plan for the future, ensuring stability when we may be offering additional and changing services, in uncertain healthcare and funding environments. Mike Batson - Vice Chairman(back to top)![]() Mike Batson retired after forty years working in education. He has lived and worked locally for the last thirty years. After the loss of five colleagues to cancer he determined on retiring to volunteer his professional experience to his local Hospice. While he recognises his role as ensuring proper governance, he also wishes to encourage and support continuous development and the achievement of the highest standard of service possible for the patients and their families. He is a family man, married for over forty years to Linda. They have two children and three grandchildren so far. Derek Way - Treasurer & Chair of Business and Finance Committeeback to top![]() Derek Way was born, educated and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Macclesfield. He went into management accountancy and spent 23 years with ICI Pharmaceuticals retiring as Assistant Financial Controller. He then joined Quarry Bank Mill Trust, the working textile museum as Finance Director before becoming a Trustee of the Hospice in May 2009. He is at present the Treasurer of the Hospice. Keith Andersonback to top![]() Keith Anderson is a retired Finance Director. He is initially from Northumberland but has been in the North West for over 30 years. He is married with 3 children and 4 step children. He decided to support East Cheshire Hospice when he moved to the area on re-marriage because his first wife had such wonderful care at the end of her life in another hospice. His wishes is to use his extensive business and finance experience to help the Hospice have the funds, financial stability and reserves to achieve its goal of making every day count for its patients and those important to them, now and in the future. Elizabeth Jovanovic(back to top)![]() Elizabeth was brought up in Yorkshire. She studied Social Sciences as a degree at Manchester Polytechnic. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She has a wealth of HR background experience. Her interest in hospice work began when her mum died from cancer in 1998. The support she had from the local hospice and from the caring professionals who helped the family was incredible. Jacqueline Cassidy(back to top)![]() Jacqueline was born in Hamburg, Germany and educated in Ghana, Nigeria and at boarding school in England, before studying English Language and Literature at Manchester University. Falling for for the friendliness of the North West of England – not its climate – she built her adult life here. She spent most of her working life in education and training, initially as a comprehensive school teacher of English, becoming a senior lecturer at Macclesfield College, lecturing A level students in English and Communication. She set up her own training consultancy in 1997, offering management training to many local small and medium businesses, and also to major PLCs, eventually specialising in the construction industry. In 1998 she became a non-executive director at the Christie Hospital in Withington, Manchester; she served two terms of office, developing a keen interest in improving cancer services for patients and relatives. For the last 29 years she has lived in Poynton, where she enjoys feeling a part of a village community. Dr James Billingham(back to top)![]() James was a General Practitioner in Knutsford since 1973 but retired at the end of 2008. His main interests were in Psychiatry, Obstetrics, GP Training and Peer Appraisal. He is married to Joy who was also a GP and partner in the same practice (now too retired) and has two stepsons who are both working in London in finance. He hopes to bring to Council and ECH, especially in the field of Clinical Governance, his experience of 38 years in medicine and running a practice for 34 years and an unbiased, even handed, empathic approach. Helen Kirk - Chair of Clinical Governance Committee(back to top)![]() Helen's family have lived in the Macclesfield area for more than forty years. Helen is a parish councillor and also a public governor at the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. After training as a nurse in Nottingham, Helen served as a Captain in the Army for six years before spending about seven years balancing children, specialist nursing posts, and university work. She has previously worked in the Macclesfield and Wythenshawe hospitals and is now a consultant nurse and works on NHS projects all round the UK. Helen is the nursing representative on number of national bodies. Most of her work is focused on helping health services organisations to improve their performance and introduce innovative practices, whilst making sure that the needs of patients, families and friends are at the heart of care. Tracy O'Keefe(back to top)![]() Tracey runs her own marketing and communications agency, O’Keefe Associates, based in Macclesfield. She has lived most of her life in this part of Cheshire and is married with 3 children. Seeing the wonderful support the hospice movement gave to a close friend, led Tracey to volunteer first as a driver and then as a trustee at ECH. She hopes that her business management and marketing skills contribute to the mix of experience available to the hospice team, to support them in the fantastic work they do for the patients and their loved ones. Justine Clowes(back to top)![]() Justine is a Solicitor and Partner at sasdaniels LLP in Macclesfield. She is married and has one daughter. She grew up in Congleton but has lived and worked in Macclesfield for the last 10 years. She wanted to become involved in supporting the Hospice having seen firsthand the work that goes on there when one of her clients became a patient. She feels privileged to be part of such a worthwhile organisation. Justine believes that the Council of Trustees should be made up of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, who can bring a range of experience and skills to the role. Audrey Lindsay(back to top)![]() Audrey has enjoyed a career that spans research and lecturing, freelance, journalism and broadcasting, fashion and interior design consulatncy and a variety of roles within corporate affairs. She is familiar with the hospice through the involvement of friends and welcomes using her past experiences to help further the aims and objectives of the hospice. Margaret Coyle(back to top)![]() Margaret was born and educated in Liverpool and took a degree in Modern Languages at Manchester University before joining the teaching profession. She taught French and German in various Cheshire schools and led her own Modern Languages Department before coming to this area in 1988 as Deputy Headteacher of Fallibroome High School in Macclesfield, a post she held until her retirement in 2007. Margaret has long been a supporter of the East Cheshire Hospice, its creation having coincided with her arrival in Macclesfield. Like many of us, she has lost close friends and family members to cancer and also had several colleagues who were cared for in the hospice, where she observed at first hand the exceptional level of support and care provided to everyone. She is keen to use the skills and knowledge she gained in education management to help the Hospice move forward during a particularly challenging time, so that it continues to thrive and offer a vital service to the community. An active member of the U3A in Congleton, where she lives, Margaret also does some voluntary work for one of the cancer support groups at Wythenshawe Hospital. Sean Martin(back to top)![]() Sean Martin was born and raised in the West Country and now a resident of Macclesfield, Sean has enjoyed a high profile career in international banking, finance and private client management that has taken him across Europe to the depths of Africa and several countries in Asia. His key focus has been on individual wealth management, the long term strategic planning of finances and specialist banking needs to support them and their businesses. Such skills will be valuable in supporting sound planning to ensure the Hospice’s long term financial security. After living in Switzerland for several years, he returned to Macclesfield in 2006 in order to nurse his Mother through the latter stages of breast cancer, which led him to East Cheshire Hospice and his subsequent volunteering role on the wards, supporting the nursing team in looking after patients. Outside interests include being a keen organist, pianist and church chorister. |
